You’ve kept that New Years’ resolution and invested in a professional teeth whitening treatment. Your teeth look great, and you can't stop smiling because you haven’t felt this good about your appearance in a long time!

Now all you have to do is decide how you want to keep those pearly whites shining long after your treatment, too, because there are things you did (or didn’t do) that affected the whiteness of your smile in the first place. We also want your teeth whitening to last, so our Hershey dentist has some recommendations to help you understand what those things were so you can avoid them this time around!

  1. Keep Up with Oral Hygiene – There’s nothing that will dull your teeth faster than poor oral hygiene. Using a whitening toothpaste twice a day will help remove surface stains and reduce yellowing. Also, keep up with your twice-daily flossing to remove any plaque build-up.
  2. Avoid Tobacco and Foods That Discolor Teeth – You may be surprised at all the substances that are known to stain teeth. Tobacco use is obvious, as is drinking a lot of coffee or red wine. But dark berries, tea, and even soy sauce used in quantity can cause stains and discoloration.
  3. Follow-Up with Whitening at Home – After your teeth whitening treatment at our Hershey dental office, we’ll send you home with a customized at-home teeth whitening kit. Dr. Davis will provide instructions as to how long and how often you should use the trays included with the kit. Conscientious at-home whitening is the best way to stay a step ahead of staining.
