Are tooth-colored fillings painful?

At Wesley R. Davis, DDS, we understand the concern patients may have regarding dental procedures, no matter how minor they may be.

We'd like to clarify that we prioritize our patient's health and comfort. At no point during your visit with us should you ever feel unsafe, in pain, stressed out, or otherwise unhappy. Dental sedation isn't reserved for complex surgical procedures; we use many methods to make your visit with us pleasant.

That being said, filling your cavity with tooth-colored fillings should never be painful.

You Won't Fill a Thing While We Treat Your Oral Health

The very first thing our Hersey, PA preventive dentist, Dr. Wesley R. Davis, takes care of at the beginning of the procedure is administering a local anesthetic.

This will numb the area and guarantee that you won't feel any pain or discomfort.

As we eliminate any infected tissue in the tooth, we work hard to preserve as much of your existing tooth structure as possible. White colored-fillings are ideally suited for this, whereas metal or amalgam fillings require a bit more removal.

Once Dr. Davis is satisfied that your tooth is squeaky clean, we sterilize it and apply the composite resin filling in small thin layers to ensure it bonds happily to the enamel. Each layer is cured and hardened before we start on the next. Patients can feel secure that the risk of the filling falling out or becoming loose is significantly lowered.

Once we've completed the procedure (sans pain!), patients can continue with their day with a healthier smile.
