Tooth-Colored Fillings, Inlays, Onlays

At Wesley R. Davis, DDS, we understand the concern patients may have regarding dental procedures, no matter how minor they may be.

We'd like to clarify that we prioritize our patient's health and comfort. At no point during your visit with us should you ever feel unsafe, in pain, stressed out, or otherwise unhappy. Dental sedation isn't reserved for complex surgical procedures; we use many methods to make your visit with us pleasant.

That being said, filling your cavity with tooth-colored fillings should never be painful.

You Won't Fill a Thing While We Treat Your Oral Health

The very first thing our Hersey, PA preventive dentist, Dr. Wesley R. Davis, takes care of at the beginning of the procedure is administering a local anesthetic.

This will numb the area and guarantee that you won't feel any pain or discomfort.

As we eliminate any infected tissue in the tooth, we work hard to preserve as much of your existing tooth structure as possible. White colored-fillings are ideally suited for this, whereas metal or amalgam fillings require a bit more removal.

Once Dr. Davis is satisfied that your tooth is squeaky clean, we sterilize it and apply the composite resin filling in small thin layers to ensure it bonds happily to the enamel. Each layer is cured and hardened before we start on the next. Patients can feel secure that the risk of the filling falling out or becoming loose is significantly lowered.

Once we've completed the procedure (sans pain!), patients can continue with their day with a healthier smile.

This is a common question Hershey, PA patients have regarding their old silver or amalgam fillings that have become unappealingly dark and noticeable.

Aside from the visual benefits of tooth-colored fillings, there are other benefits to replacing a silver filling.

The Benefits of Replacing Silver Fillings

  • The filling is old and loose
  • The filling is in a highly visible place that shows when you laugh
  • The filling might have a cavity under it
  • Some patients may not feel safe with silver feelings
  • Composite resin fillings better blend in with your smile
  • Tooth-colored fillings don't require an impactful removal of existing tooth structure

Our Conservative Approach

At Wesley R. Davis, DDS, we are big proponents of conservative preventive dentistry. We seek out minimally invasive procedures whenever possible. Unless your existing traditional fillings need to be replaced or are slowly becoming loose, we may not recommend replacing them unless they cause embarrassment to the patient.

If a cavity does develop under the filling, we will remove any intruding bacteria and sterilize it before filling the cavity with tooth-colored resin.

During your routine dental check-ups and exams with us, Dr. Davis checks each filling to see that they aren't slowly falling apart. If there is a problem, we will address it right away with you and go over your options.

If, at any point, you feel like your fillings should be looked at, call us, and we'll schedule an appointment.
